    In the dark
I tend to wake up early because I like the dark.
I tried making a little story to explain it.
I love playing with sequential art. Not simply because I want to depict a sequence of event but mostly because I like trying to generate emotions through them.

IMHO, the best work of Alex Ross’s career to date has been published as his cover artwork for Astro City.

the covers are his most diversely influenced, most nuanced, and most dynamic. he uses a constantly changing color palette, and each cover seems to reflect whatever else he was working on in the interim, while still being unique.

(Brent Anderson is the interior artist for most of Astro City.)

Ross has consistently cited Norman Rockwell as his first and primary influence. Ross’s focus as a student was portraiture, not comics. That’s why he’s better as a colorist than as a narrative storyteller.

So, his mainstream Superhero work is -above all- reverential and based on the heroic ideals.

Astro City, on the other hand, is Alex Ross stretching his creative muscles. It’s really and truly a showcase of Ross’s best cover artwork to date.
